Jane Street Faces Insider Trading Lawsuit Linked to Terra Collapse
Jane Street Group is embroiled in a lawsuit alleging insider trading tied to the collapse of Terraform Labs' ecosystem. The complaint, filed by court-appointed administrator Todd Snyder in Manhattan federal court, accuses the trading firm of exploiting non-public information to exit positions before TerraUSD's implosion.
The lawsuit names Jane Street, co-founder Robert Granieri, and employees Bryce Pratt and Michael Huang as defendants. It claims Pratt—a former Terraform intern—reconnected with ex-colleagues to obtain confidential updates about the struggling blockchain project. These alleged communications purportedly enabled Jane Street to strategically divest Terra-linked tokens ahead of the May 2022 crash.
Jane Street denies wrongdoing, countering that Terraform's management failures caused investor losses. The case spotlights the opaque interplay between proprietary trading firms and crypto projects during market crises.
